From Tues 23.4.2024 starts Chithirai Brahmothsavam at Thiruvallikkeni divyadesam  ~ for those residing far and away, some lensmen capture photos & videos  of Perumal with some difficulty and share on social media. 

Here is how they look like – a photo depiction century ago :  those  cameras, mounted on sturdy tripods, required a level of skill and patience that turned  photograph into a masterpiece. Each photograph required setting up the shot meticulously, adjusting the lens manually for the perfect focus, and waiting for the right moment to capture a slice of life or a piece of history.

Chithirai Shukla Paksha Ekadasi 2024 - பள்ளி அடைந்தானை நாளும் அடைந்து.

எம்பெருமானை ஆச்ரயிக்கப்பெற்றவர்களில் ஆரேனும் துன்பப்படுவார் உண்டோ !?!? இன்று சிறப்பு நாள் -  ஏகாதசி – 19.4.2024, வெள்ளிக்கிழமை  (சித்திரை மாதம் 6, சுக்ல பக்ஷ  ஏகாதசி).  திருவல்லிக்கேணியில்  ஸ்ரீ பார்த்தசாரதி பெருமாள் பெரிய மாட வீதி புறப்பாடு  கண்டருளினார். 

 

It is summer time and the heat is unbearable !  Over the past couple of weeks, Chennai has been experiencing very hot weather and there were fears of mercury shooting up further  - today was a holiday being Election day at Tamil Nadu -  being first phase of 18^th Lok Sabha Elections 2024.   

The Nation has come a long way from the first General elections that were held  25 October 1951 and 21 February 1952.  Voters elected the 489 members of the first Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Parliament of India. Elections to most of the state legislatures were held simultaneously.   Madras was a composite state with many parts of Andhra and Madras was a single constituency.  Mr TT Krishnamachari won – there were 369299 eligible voters of whom 52.9% voted and TTK garnered 195370 votes.  Not many would know that there was a party called -   Commonweal Party that existed in Tamil Nadu between 1951 and 1954,  started by M. A. Manickavelu Naicker.  The party won three seats in the 1952 Lok Sabha election and six seats in the Madras State legislative assembly elections.   

In the Madras Assembly elections, no  single party obtained a simple majority to form an independent government. C. Rajagopalachari (Rajaji) of the Indian National Congress became the Chief Minister after a series of re-alignments among various political parties and Independents.  Rajaji resigned in 1954 and in the ensuing leadership struggle, Kamaraj defeated Rajaji's chosen successor C. Subramaniam and became the Chief Minister on 31 March 1954.  

Today the voting was between 7 am to 6 pm – there are couple of Polling booths in the mada veethi – NKT Boys High School and Samarao school – periya mada veethi purappadu started around 5.45 pm.

அடைந்தானை நாளும் அடைந்து. 

 

மேகங்கள் நிறைந்த பெரிய கடலை தானே முன்னின்று கடைந்தவனும் ஸகல ஜகத்காரண பூதனுமானவனும், திருப்பாற்கடலில்  ஆதிசேஷனாகிற அனந்தன் மேல்  பள்ளிக்கொண்டிருப்பவனுமான எம்பெருமானை நாடோறும் பணிபவர்கள்  ஒருபோதும் ஒருவிதமான துக்கங்களையும் அனுபவிக்கமாட்டார்கள்  - - அவ்வாறு துயருற்றோர் எங்குமில்லை ! யாருமில்லை!!

In this World, there exists sufferings and sorrow ~  Can  there ever be  people bereft of sorrow and  eternally blissful – our Peyalwar shows us the way in his Moonram thiruvanthathi.    Peyazhwar’s advice to the Universe is simple – to those who offer worship everyday to the Lord who reclines in Sesha sayanam,  who churned the ocean, who is the cause of all  - there would seldom by any misery .  

At Thiruvallikkeni divyadesam, we are fortunate to have darshan of Emperuman on most days and today being Shukla paksha  Ekadasi in the month of Chithirai  - we were fortunae to have the divyadarshan of Sri Parthasarathi Emperuman

Sree Rama Navami 2024 - Hanumantha vahanam

இன்று அற்புத நாள் ~ ஜகம் புகழும் ஸ்ரீ ராமபிரான் அவதரித்த நல்நாள்.  நன்மையளிப்பவனும், இணையற்றவனும்,  தாமரைக்கண்ணனும், பூசிக்க தக்கவனுமாகிய - இராமபிரானின் அருள் பெறாதவர் - இருந்தும், என்ன செய்தும் என்ன பயன் என வினவினாராம் தியாகய்யர்.  ஸ்ரீ ராமபிரான் முடி சூட வந்தபோது, அவரை பார்த்த அயோத்தி மக்கள் :

 

‘உய்த்தது இவ்வுலகம்’ என்பார்; ‘ஊழி காண்கிற்பாய்’ என்பார்;

‘மைந்த! நீ கோடி எங்கள் வாழ்க்கை நாள் யாவும்’

 

~  “செய்ய முடியாத தவத்தை செய்து இப்படி ஒரு செம்மலைப் பெற்றெடுத்த தசரத மன்னனுக்கு என்ன கைம்மாறு செய்யப்போகிறோம்,?”   என புகழ்ந்து மகிழ்ந்தனாராம் அயோத்தி மக்கள்.

Today (17^th Apr 2024)  is the holy  Sree Rama Navami – the day on which Lord Sri Ramachandra murthy, the supreme avatar was born in the blessed land of  Ayodhya.  Lord Rama descended on earth for the purpose of upholding righteousness and rewarding virtue. The Greatest of  Ithihasa purana ‘Sri Ramayanam’  is the undiluted history of the Greatest Person who descended on this Universe.. .. ..   ~ and there is also the  great character – a warrior, mightily powerful, whose body was as hard as a diamond, whose speed equalled those of fastest flying eagles, who possessed great wisdom, who could organize a group of roaming ones, who can jump hundreds of miles, yet who remained at the feet of his Master, totally committed thinking of their welfare alone – unassuming, yet capable of telling the right things at the right moment – that is Pavana Puthra Hanuman – Aanjaneya, who is called ‘siriya thiruvadi’ – bearer of Lord Rama – who carried Rama on his shoulders during the war in which the demon was killed.   

As he traversed the samudra and landed at Lanka, in search of Sita Mata, he trailed destruction killing demons and devastating the property of Ravana.  Getting the news of the power of Hanuman,  Ravana ordered Rakshasas known as Kinkaras, Valmiki describes them to be 80000 – mighty, big and powerful demons. They too were killed – later as  Hanuman decided to stop the fighting and meet Ravana, he was over-powered  and taken to the courtyard of Ravana where he introduced himself thus,

 

अहं तु हनुमान्नाम मारुतस्यौरसस्सुतः । सीतायास्तु कृते तूर्णम् शतयोजनमायतम् ।

समुद्रं लङ्घयित्वैव तां दिदृक्षुरिहागतः । भ्रमता च मया दृष्टा गृहे ते जनकात्मजा ॥

அஹம் து ஹநுமாந்நாம மாருதஸ்யௌரஸஸ்ஸுத: ।

ஸீதாயாஸ்து க்ருதே தூர்ணம்

ஸதயோஜநமாயதம் । ஸமுத்ரம் லங்கயித்வைவ ॥

 

My name is Hanuman, born to the mighty Vayu.  I came here searching for Seetha matha, I hopped over 100 yojana wide ocean and as I roamed around, I saw the daughter of Janaka in your house  ..    …… ……….

கம்ப இராமாயணத்தில் - சுந்தர காண்டம் ஒரு முக்கிய அவகாசம்.  சுந்தர காண்டம் கதை அழகு; அசோகவனம் அழகு; வானரர்கள் அழகு; சுந்தர காண்டத்தில் உள்ள சொற்கள் அழகு; நல்ல பலனைக் கொடுக்கும் மந்திரங்கள் அழகு; காண்டம் முழுவதும் காணப்படும் அனுமன் அழகு. ஆஞ்சநேயருக்கு  அவர் தாயார் அஞ்சனை வைத்தப்  பெயர் சுந்தரன். அவரின் சாகசங்களை சொல்லும் படலம் என்பதாலும் இப்பெயர்.  

சுந்தர காண்டம் முதல் சர்க்கத்தின் தொடக்கம், அனுமன் மகேந்திர மலையின் மீது எறி பெரிய உருவம் எடுத்து,   உயரே எழும்பிப் பறப்பதுடன் தொடங்குகிறது. முதலில் பர்வதத்தின் மேல் எறி நின்றார், ராம நாமத்தை சொல்லிக் கொண்டே இருந்தார். அவர் உருவம்  உயர தொடங்கியது.  ஆகிருதியோடு அவர் மேலெழும்பினார்,  அந்த அதிர்வில் அவரை சுற்றியுள்ள மரம் செடி கொடிகளும் கற்களும் அவருடன் எழும்பி சிறிது தூரம் அவரை வழியனுப்பவது போல மேலே அவருடன் சென்று பின் கீழே இறங்கின. ராம நாமத்தை சொல்லி அவர் உருவம் உயர்ந்தது, நாம் ராம நாமத்தைத் தொடர்ந்து ஜபித்து வந்தால் நம் பக்தி பெருகும். எப்படி அனுமான் எந்த இடரையும் ராம நாமத்தை வைத்து வெற்றி பெற்றாரோ அது போலே எந்தத் துன்பத்தையும் தைரியத்துடன் எதிர்கொள்ள, நம் மன வலிமை பெருக ராம நாமம் உதவி செய்யும்.  

அனுமன் பிறந்த பொழுதே இளஞ்சூரியனைக் கனிந்த பழம் என்று கருதி சிறிதும் அச்சம் கொள்ளாமல், அதனைப் பிடிக்கச் சென்ற வீரர்.  கம்பர் சிறு வயதில் இருந்தே அனுமானை வீரம் கொண்ட வலிமையானவனாகவே படைத்துக் காட்டுகிறார் –  அனுமனுக்கு தண்ணீர் தீ, ஆயுதம், அஸ்திரம், வியாதி போன்ற வற்றாலும் எவ்வித பாதிப்பும் ஏற்படாது என்பதையும் கம்பர்,

“வெப்புறு செந்தீ நீர் விளியாளும் விளியாதீர்

செப்புறு தெய்வப் பல் படையாலும் சிதையாதீர்”

என்ற பாடல் வரிகளின் மூலம் வெளிப்படுத்துகிறார்.  

அத்தகைய சிறந்த ஆஞ்சநேயர் மீது இராமர் எழுந்து அருளியிருக்க பெரிய மாட வீதி புறப்பாடு விமர்சையாக நடந்தேறியது.  அருகில் தரிசித்த அனைத்து பாக்கியசாலிகளும் - அனுமனின் திருவடி முதல், அவர்தம் திருக்கரங்களில் தாங்கிய ஸ்ரீராமனின் மலர்பாதங்களையும் தரிசித்தன்னர்.  மலர்மாலைகளால் அலங்கரிப்பட்ட பின்சேவை கண்டோர், அனுமனின் வாலில் இருந்த அழகிய மணியை கவனித்து இருப்பீர்கள்.

Celebrating the birth of Sri Rama ~ Sree Rama Navami 2024

*  அங்கணெடு மதிள்புடைசூழ் அயோத்தியென்னும்  அணிநகரத்து  

        உலகு அனைத்தும் விளக்கும் சோதி* 

Today is Sree Rama Navami, the birth day of Bhagwan Sree Ramachandra Murthi.  Rāmāyaṇa is the first poem (Ādi Kāvya) in the world,  composed eons ago, adapted by people speaking multiple languages. It is handed down from generation to generation orally and through written versions on palm leaves. Bhagawān, Ṛishi and self-realized Vālmeeki,  gave us  the entire life-story of Rāma, in  enchanting narrative.

 

This earth, in all its entirety and fullness has been under the care of many successful kings starting from Prajāpati. This glorious ithihasa purana  known as Rāmāyaṇa emerged from the descendants of the dynasty of great king Ikshwāku.  The mighty King Dasaratha conducted yagna for begetting progeny.  Six seasons after completion of the Yajña, on the  twelfth month after completion, on the ninth day of the Caitra month, when the five planets were in high position, as the Moon and Bṛihaspati were rising along with the star (Punarvasu) that was presided over by Aditi in the Karkātaka Lagna, Kousalyā gave birth to a son by name Rāma, who would enhance the stature and reputation of the Ikshwāku dynasty, with auspicious features, boding splendid fortunes, endowed with half as many aspects, qualities and powers of  Emperuman Sriman Narayana.

 

பண்ணையும் ஆயமும், திரளும் பாங்கரும்,

கண் அகன் திருநகர் களிப்புக் கைம்மிகுந்து,

எண்ணெயும், களபமும், இழுதும், நானமும்,

சுண்ணமும், தூவினார் - வீதிதோறுமே. 

நற்பண்புகள் அனைத்துக்கும் சிகரம் ஸ்ரீராமபிரான்.  அற்புதமான நகரம் திரு அயோத்தி.  தசரத சக்ரவர்த்திக்கு இக்ஷ்வாகு குலத்தனமாம் இராமனும் இலக்குவண பரத சத்ருக்கணனும் பிறந்த  செய்தியை அரசவை காவலர்கள்  யானைமீதேறி முரசறைந்து அறிவித்தனர்.  மக்கள் அளக்கமுடியாத இன்பம் கொண்டனர். 

जगुः कलं च गन्धर्वा  ननृतुश्चाप्सरोगणाः ।

देवदुन्दुभयो नेदुः पुष्पवृष्टिश्च खाच्च्युता ।

उत्सवश्च महानासीत् अयोध्यायां जनाकुलः ।

रथ्याश्च जनसम्बाधा नटनर्तकसङ्कुलाः ।

गायनैश्च विराविण्यो वादनैश्च तथाऽपरैः ॥

Sage Valmiki in his Ramakavya describes the moment of birth as :  at that  moment, Gandharvas sang melodiously, Apsaras danced with joy, celestial drums were sounded, flowers showered from the sky. Ayōdhyā became festive with people moving all around. Major pathways were clogged with boisterous crowds entertained by singers, musicians, dancers, actors and the like.  After eleven days passed, Vasishṭha performed the naming ceremony for the new borns with delight.

He named the great eldest son as Rāma, the son of Kaikēyee as Bharata and the sons of Sumitrā as Lakshmaṇa and Ṡatrughna.  All of them learned the Vēdas and became knowledgeable in all subjects. They were endowed with all the desirable qualities. They learned to share with everyone and care about everybody.  Those tigers among men were earnestly and equally interested in the study of Vēdas and in learning the skill of archery and in seeking and following the guidance of their parents.

பெண்கள் கூட்டத்திலும்,  ஆண்கள்  கூட்டத்திலும்    இடமகன்ற அந்த அழகிய அயோத்தி மாநகரத்திலே, களிப்பு உவகை உற்று,  மகிழ்ச்சி மேலிட்டு - ; எண்ணெயும் கலவைச்  சாந்து, வெண்ணெய்  புனுகு   வகைகளையும்;  பரிமளப் பொடி வகைகளையும்;  மக்கள் ஆனந்தத்தில் ஒவ்வொரு வீதியிலும் தூவினார்கள்.  இராஜ்யத்துக்கு அழகு வாரிசுகள்   பிறந்த   மகிழ்ச்சியால்   வீதிதோறும் மக்கள் மகிழ்ச்சியைக் கொண்டாடினர்.  ‘’எண்ணெய்  சுண்ணம் எதிரெதிர்  தூவிட’’  என பெரியாழ்வார் இதனை விவரிக்கிறார்.  . 

Today (17^th Apr 2024)  is the holy day of Sree Rama Navami – the day on which Lord Sri Ramachandramurthy,  the supreme avatar of Maryada Purush  was born in the blessed land of Ayodhya.  Lord Rama descended on earth for the purpose of upholding righteousness and rewarding virtue. 

There is only one by name Sri Rama, born in the lineage of Ikshwaku.  He is totally balanced, one in complete control of His words, thoughts and deeds; a man of great valour ~ a person of steadfast character and radiant countenance – Lord Sree Rama

The Greatest of Ithihasa purana ‘Sri Ramayanam’  is the undiluted history of the Greatest Person who descended on this Universe, on the banks of river Sarayu, in a prosperous country called ‘Koshala’.  In the immortal Ramayana, there are learning of life ….. For the Universe, Sri Rama and Sita are the Ideal persons.  Sri Rama is all pervading principle of Truth, character, steadfastness, sincerity, valour, skill, correctness, just, compassionate, righteous and more.    

On the day of Sri Rama Navami, there will the purappadu of Sri Rama in Hanumantha vahanam later in the evening.  Mere chanting of His name [Sri Rama Namam] will bring us all good things and prosperity.  

श्री राम राम  रामेति रमे रामे मनोरमे ।

सहस्रनाम तत्तुल्यं रामनाम वरानने ॥ 

                                   Meditate again and again the divine name of Rama  - mind gets absorbed in the divine consciousness of Rama, it is transcendental and is capable of relieving all evils, giving us all prosperity. 

Uthsavam for the Maryada Purush ~ Emperor of Kosala Kingdom is now on  at Thiruvallikkeni and other divyadesams.  Today evening there would be grand Hanumantha vahana purappadu
